The seafront site of the former Palm Court Hotel is being redeveloped by Havard Tisdale & Mansell Construction Services Ltd into a prestigious landmark building for Torbay.

The scheme, being an investment in excess of £10M, will create a mixed-use complex comprising commercial uses on the ground floor, including bars and restaurants, 2 floors of holiday apartments above and 2 floors of open market residential properties which will offer some of the best views in the Bay.

The design and striking architecture will create a landmark building as well as enhance the public realm as the project also incorporates a wide terrace area for outdoor seating in front of the building.  Car parking will be provided at the rear, accessed from Shedden Hill Road.

Torbay Development Agency is facilitating the development and on behalf of Torbay Council negotiated the sale of a piece of Council land which forms an integral part of the site. Now the contractors are on site, the TDA is the main point of contact for all construction and site issues. After completing the controlled demolition and removal of contaminants, the developer has now nearly completed the main superstructure and the curved form of the building is now clearly evident. Works to the façade will commence shortly and, once it is wind and water tight, works will commence on the interior of the building. Practical completion of the building is scheduled for the summer of 2014.

The scheme is expected to create a mixture of over 100 full time and part time positions, in addition to the jobs during the construction period.
