Torbay Hi Tech Forum announces MTI12 event

Building on the success of the inaugural event, Torbay Development Agency and Torbay Hi Tech Forum are pleased to announce the date for this year’s Hi Tech, Manufacturing Technology & Innovation Conference 2012 which will be promoted as MTI12.

This year’s high-profile event will be held at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay on Thursday 18 October from 9am to 4.30pm, with key industry speakers, break-out seminars and exhibitors from the hi tech sector and related industries.

Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are available now. Businesses looking to invest in this year’s event will play a key role in the network of hi-tech firms that are building on the strength of the technology sector in Torbay.

Those who sign up for exhibition space before 29 May will receive an early-bird discount rate - contact Torbay Development Agency’s Marketing Executive, Helena Davison on 01803 207915 or email [email protected] for more information.

Gordon Oliver, Mayor of Torbay said: “This dynamic event offers local Hi-tech firms a superb platform for sharing expertise, building supply chains and links with the higher education sector, as well as outstanding networking opportunities with speakers, exhibitors and over 200 delegates.

“I hope that once again the South West’s leading advanced manufacturing, engineering and technology companies will help us make this event a success by sponsoring or exhibiting on the day. This fits in with my election promises to encourage and develop this major sector of Torbay’s economy.”

Jason Buck, Torbay Development Agency’s Investment Development Manager and current Chair of the Torbay Hi Tech Forum said: “Based on the feedback from last year’s event, our intention is to develop the important elements that delegates, sponsors and exhibitors want to see.

“Expanding the size of the exhibition element, increasing networking time and reducing the number of seminars will provide further opportunities for collaboration and new product development.

“The advanced electronics and hi-tech sectors are a key target for inward-investment in Torbay, and the event will yet again demonstrate the sector’s growing strength in the area.

“Primarily, businesses in these sectors look for a workforce high in existing skills and knowledge, which Torbay has in abundance. This is backed up by organisations such as UK Trade & Investment who between 2005 and 2010 found that 13% of all investment managers wanted a readily available skilled workforce, along with 24% stating proximity to markets.

“We have the link road construction confirmed and the skills the sector demands. Proposed developments such as Whiterock, Claylands and Torquay Business Hub and the third phase of TDA Innovation Centres will strengthen Torbay’s offer.”
