Spring is definitely in the air for the Kitchen Gallery at the Cockington Court Craft Centre, as once again a diverse range of quality regional, national and international artists line up for shows over the coming months.
Paignton artist, Mike Langman, has already kicked off the exciting spring programme with his show 'A passion for bird illustration' at the gallery. His original oil paintings, prints and notebook sketches will be on display until Saturday 11 February.
From Wednesday 15 February until Sunday 18 March a contemporary exhibition will showcase the work of local artists Carl Cashman and James Derwin and from Wednesday 28 March Henry Bruce will return to wow visitors with an indoor installation intriguingly entitled 'Parts that make up a whole.'
A month later on Saturday 28 April the gallery will welcome the work of the internationally recognised artist duo Jake and Dinos Chapman. Their subject matter tends to concentrate on whatever is generally deemed to be appalling and vulgar and offers an introduction to the imaginations of two of Britain’s most inventive and subversive artists.
Cllr Jeanette Richards, Executive Lead for Tourism and Environment, which includes culture and arts in the Bay, said: "It is great to see such an exciting line up of quality artists who will be showcasing their work locally. It really puts helps to put the Kitchen Gallery on a national platform as one of the best small galleries in the South-west and in turn attract more people into the Bay.
"So whether you are an art lover or perhaps just a little intrigued by the nature of the exhibitions I would encourage everyone to go along and see the works of art for themselves."
Cllr Dave Butt, Regional Arts Council Board Member, said: “The English Riviera is certainly gaining a well deserved reputation for hosting amazing art not only by some of the most renowned artists in the world but also fantastic local artists.
"The upcoming exhibitions will really help to attract more visitors to the Bay which in turn helps to boost our local economy and raise our profile as one of the cultural attractions in the South-west.
"In partnership with the Arts Council we are always looking at new and exciting ways of boosting our arts and cultural industries so watch this space, I am sure future events will be equally impressive and inspire even more debate about the nature of art."
