Torbay Council is commited to managing it energy resources, with a full time Energy manager and a full time Carbon Reduction Officer.
The Energy Management Team, as part of the Torbay Development Agency, provides a comprehensive energy management service to all Torbay Council properties which includes schools, office accommodation, town halls and libraries.
The role of the Energy Management Team is to help, advise, and educate building users in energy efficiency and to assist Departments and partner clients to implement energy efficiency measures.
Energy efficiency is one way of reducing the impact of global warming as well as reducing environmental pollution it also produces savings on fuel bills.
The Energy Management Team’s (EMT) aims are:
- To reduce the council's energy consumption by 20% of the 2005/06 figure by the year 2012.
- To actively promote a sustainable energy future for Torbay and its communities.
To reduce the carbon emissions of the council by 30% by 2020 and 80% by 2050 from 1990 levels. To find out more about Energy Management and its projects see the Useful Links below.
How the EMT is working towards meeting these targets:
- Building Energy Management. Centrally computer controlled Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Monitoring and Targeting. Energy and water consumption is monitored to minimise usage and identify high consumption.
- Energy Efficiency Surveys. Surveys are carried out and advice is given on the implementation of the energy saving measures that have been identified.
- Energy Saving Fund - a fund partly funded by Salix, partly by the Council has been set up for the Installation of energy saving measures to meet Torbay Council environmental objectives in accordance with Central Government objectives.
- We offer support to our schools in the form of advice and the Energy saving fund.
