Dunboyne Court is a £8.5 million extra care scheme for people aged 55+.  It provides 37 affordable rented apartment and 8 shared ownership apartments.

When designing homes for older people consideration has to be given to the specific environmental requirements and how a home might evolve to serve the occupants' changing circumstances and health needs.  Communal spaces and activities and opportunities for informal interaction to foster community identity and inclusiveness are all important features.  The 24hr staff cover enables residents to remain independent and avoid admission to residential and nursing care.  The service provides a higher level of support than sheltered housing.

There is a wide range of services on site that acts as a community hub; these include a hair salon, laundry, restaurant and communal lounges.  This scheme will also help its residents to live independently for longer and help to reduce hospital admissions and the reliance on residential care.
