Queensgate Instruments (a brand of Prior Scientific) will be one of the founder tenants at EPIC, securing 50% of the ground floor of the purpose built Electronics and Photonics Innovation Centre.

The Torbay based company is a global leader in the design and manufacture of precision positioning devices, optical systems, automation solutions, and components. Many of the world's leading scientific instrumentation companies and research institutions are benefitting from Queensgate’s 40 years of experience and engineering excellence.

Prior Scientific, founded in 1919, celebrates 100 years in business this year and has manufacturing bases in the UK and USA and additional regional offices in Germany, Japan, and China supporting its products worldwide.

Tom Freda, CEO at Prior Scientific, said: “The move into EPIC will enable us to operate from a modern facility and grow our business in the Torbay region.  This beautiful facility will also enable us to encourage more customer visits. We will relocate Queensgate Instruments, currently based in Torquay. The Centre provides us with the opportunity work collaboratively with other hi tech companies and research institutions.”

EPIC will be a centre of excellence, supporting technological innovation and promoting collaborative activity between businesses and research institutions. It will also accommodate and support start up and spin-off companies and encourage foreign direct investment to Torbay and its microelectronics and photonics sector.

Wayne Loschi, EPIC Centre Director, said: “We are thrilled to have Queensgate Instruments sign up to EPIC. Securing such a high profile tenant shows the ambitions of the Centre and the development that is taking place in the photonics and electronics industries in Torbay. There is a real appetite for the facilities that we can offer in the Centre to help these companies develop their products.”

The EPIC Centre will be complete next month with the official opening in June.
