South Devon employers, who are actively recruiting, will exhibit at the Torbay and South Devon Jobs Fair in Torquay on Friday 5 October.

Delivered by TDA, Torbay Council and in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, the free event will take place in Torquay’s Town Hall Assembly Rooms from 9.30am to 1pm, providing anyone looking for a job the opportunity to meet with over 60 local employers.

Torbay’s Elected Mayor, Gordon Oliver, said: “Every Jobs Fair that we have held over the past three years has been very successful, thanks to the quality of the businesses across Torbay and South Devon. We match job vacancies with skills and provide a unique platform for candidates to find a new role in Torbay’s diverse sectors.

“The investment we are seeing in Torbay means that there are more jobs being created and more employment opportunities. There will be hundreds of live vacancies on offer, from local employers across all sectors including construction, hospitality and tourism. We welcome anyone looking for a job to attend and talk with employers about the vacancies on offer. We will continue to run jobs fairs to support our South Devon businesses find suitable candidates for their expanding and growing companies.”

In March, over 580 candidates met with 48 employers from across Torbay and South Devon, who recruit for permanent, temporary and seasonal employment opportunities with their company.

Rebecca Davies, Senior Economic Development Officer at TDA, said: “This free event is unique; it provides a fantastic opportunity to build on our strong links with employers across the region to actively increase employment. There is a real commitment from our business community and service providers to work together and make this event a success and help people secure employment. We’re working hard with local employers and we’re keen to hear from any business in Torbay and South Devon who would like to take part.”

TDA will also be showcasing the range of business support it provides to local employers to help them develop, grow and take on more employees. Jobcentre Plus Work Coaches will be available throughout the day to support and help people match their skills with the jobs on offer. Support with CVs and job applications will also available in Torquay Jobcentre.

Karen Palin, Employer Engagement Manager at Jobcentre Plus, said: “Following the success of previous South Devon Jobs Fairs, the event provides an excellent opportunity for candidates to meet and talk to employers who have vacancies.  The Jobs Fair combined with support in the Jobcentre will help people fulfil ambitions and find their desired job.”

The organisers are keen for employers to promote any active vacancies and apprenticeships they may have at the time of the event, or in the period afterwards into the New Year. .

Rebecca Davies continued: “We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the employers and candidates who have attended previous Jobs Fairs, the successful event is becoming one of the most popular ways of recruiting new staff for free.”
