Final chance to nominate your High Street Hero

30th April 2018

Categories: Latest News

The nominations for Torbay’s High Street Hero closes on Sunday 13 May so make sure your nomination is in.

The Love your High Street project is looking to find the ultimate High Street Hero, a person or business that really makes a difference to your shopping experience.

Councillor Richard Haddock, Executive Lead for Business, said: “Following the success of the Love your High Street campaign, with a great number of local retailers showing their support, we want to recognise the people and businesses that make Torbay great. Last year we had over 70 nominations.

“If you know a person or business that goes the extra mile, always put a smile on your face or offers exceptional customer service, then these are just some of the reasons why you might put your Hero forward.”

There are no limits to the number of people or businesses that can be nominated, although the business must be based in Torbay. To nominate your High Street Hero go to and fill out a short online form.

Nominations will be shortlisted in early June and the winner will be chosen by a panel including a TDA Business Advisor, Lauren Wade of Bishop Fleming and local MP Kevin Foster.

One of last year’s High street Hero winners, Twit Twoo, said: “This project underpins a lot of things that we believe in. Our local customer base is hugely important to us and with small, high quality and independent businesses opening all the time our town continues to develop and improve.

“We talk to customers on a daily basis and this informs us of what people like and what they are looking for. We focus on making shopping an enjoyable sensory experience where customers can handle goods and discover hidden treasures. The Love Your High Street Hero award gave us the confidence to continue to grow and develop our offer and our business.”

Love your High Street is a campaign delivered by TDA which encourages local people to shop more frequently in independent shops around the Bay and helps spread the message about why spending locally is so important.  The campaign runs throughout the year, and includes a retailer of the month, Love your High Street weeks and the High Street Hero award.

Over 100 retailers have already signed up to be part of Love your High Street, which takes place on 4-10 June 2018.

If you’re an independent high street business and want to register to be part of Love your High Street you can register for free at

Businesses that have already registered do not need to sign up again.
