Categories: Latest News

Love your High Street is looking to honour Torbay’s local retailers,  the project is looking to find the ultimate High Street Hero.

Love your High Street is looking for a person or business that really make a difference to your shopping experience.

Councillor Richard Haddock, Executive Lead for Business, said: “Following the success of the Love your High Street campaign, with a great number of local retailers showing their support, we want to recognise the people and businesses that make Torbay great. Last year we had over 70 nominations.

“If you know a person or business that goes the extra mile, always put a smile on your face or offers exceptional customer service, then these are just some of the reasons why you might put your Hero forward.”

There are no limits to the number of people or businesses that can be nominated, although the business must be based in Torbay. To nominate your High Street Hero go to and fill out a short online form. The deadline is Sunday 13 May.

Nominations will be shortlisted in early June and the winner will be chosen by a panel including Liz Edwards, Senior Business Advisor at TDA, Lauren Wade of Bishop Fleming and MP Kevin Foster.

One of last year’s High street Hero winners Colin Ross, who is the owner of Green Leaf Café, said: “I am a great believer in trying to shop locally whenever possible and the support which you give to independent businesses is a significant bonus to us all. To be awarded the High Street Hero was a wonderful surprise for the whole team at Green Leaf Cafe.  We are proudly displaying our awards in the cafe.”

Love your High Street  is a campaign delivered by TDA which encourages local people to shop more frequently in independent shops around the Bay and helps spread the message about why spending locally is so important.  The campaign runs throughout the year, and includes a retailer of the month, the Love your High Street weeks and the High Street Hero award.

Over 100 retailers have already signed up to be part of Love your High Street, which takes place on 4-10 June 2018.

If you’re an independent high street business and want to register to be part of Love your High Street you can register for free at

Businesses that have already registered do not need to sign up again.
