Torbay’s New Culture Hosts

25th July 2017

Torbay’s Great Place Scheme programme is building momentum and a series of adventurous arts events is helping to put Torbay firmly on the cultural map.

Two events in particular are creating a peak of cultural activity in September, which can only successfully run with the support of volunteers as stewards, helpers and even story-tellers.  THE TALE is an exciting new event for explorers of all ages, guiding visitors on a journey of discovery from the streets of Torquay, through hidden coves and historic harbours, to the quarry of Berry Head.  New artworks and performances will be revealed during three weekends in September.  The INTERNATIONAL  AGATHA CHRISTIE FESTIVAL,  running from 13-17 September, has expanded into a major platform for new works with guest writers, performers, artists, song, stories and dance celebrating the extraordinary life and legacies of Dame Agatha Christie Mallowan.

The energy and enthusiasm that the volunteer hosts can share with visitors was very evident at the Global Geopark Conference in September 2016, when over 80 volunteers signed up to help.  This year’s events will be the next step towards establishing a friendly army of CULTURE HOSTS that can help to make Torbay a truly ‘great place’.

Executive Director of Torbay Culture Board, Kate Farmery, said:  ‘We’re looking for Hosts from all parts of the community to help us celebrate Torbay as a great creative and cultural centre.  If you are proud of your Bay and want others feel the same way, do get in touch.  I know it will be a fun and rewarding experience and even a few hours could make a real difference.’

Potential Hosts with a few hours to spare this autumn, who would like to get involved with something different, new and exciting can find out more by visiting http://www.torbayculture.org/culture-hosts/ . or by popping in to meet the team at one of the Culture Host  drop in information sessions…
