Shoppers and retailers love local

4th December 2017

Love Your High Street is a hit for independent businesses and shoppers in Torbay.

The Love your High Street campaign encourages local people to shop more frequently in independent shops and helps spread the message about why spending locally is so important.

Liz Edwards, TDA Business Advisor and project lead, said: “It was a real pleasure spending time with shoppers and retailers across Torbay and finding out why local shops are so important to them. What is absolutely clear is that these businesses bring the community together and provide a unique service that local people depend on. This is why the Love Your High Street campaign is a success and a project that will continue to celebrate and promote Torbay’s independent businesses.”

Love Your High Street is a legacy of Shop up the High Street, which was a project funded by the Coastal Communities Fund.  The campaign is delivered by TDA.

The campaign was part of Small Business Saturday UK, a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.
