Independent high street businesses celebrate Torbay’s Love Your High Street week.

The Love your High Street campaign encourages local people to shop more frequently in independent shops and helps spread the message about why spending locally is so important.

Richard Haddock, Executive Lead for Business, said: “Torbay is full of great independent shops and businesses. Many of them are taking part in this great campaign as they realise the impact is has and the boost it provides to the local economy. Every penny that is spent in independent shops is supporting a dream. Many of these businesses use local suppliers too so the money is spent again in Torbay.”

Love Your High Street is a legacy of Shop up the High Street, which was a project funded by the Coastal Communities Fund.  The campaign is delivered by TDA.

Liz Edwards, TDA Business Advisor and project lead, said: “The businesses signing up for the campaign love being part of it. With so many unique business types across Torbay, shoppers can find something different when they visit the shops in our high streets. The campaign runs alongside Small Business Saturday and with so many great small businesses in Torbay it’s the perfect time to celebrate and enjoy these. ”

Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.

Love your High Street week is taking place this week across Torbay and is free of charge to all independent retailers wishing to get involved. Love your High Street works with retailers to promote their celebrations via social media and collaborate on events.
