Business has grown steadily for enlightenHR since it moved into an office at Bishops Place, Paignton.

The business, which provides SMEs with specialist HR advice and support, is run by Alison Benney who has taken on an apprentice to help with the workload.

Mia Millard-Smith is currently working 30 hours a week for enlightenHR, on a year’s apprenticeship, carrying out various administration tasks, which is freeing up Alison and enabling her to take on more clients and offer additional services.

Alison said: “It was a big step for me to take on an apprentice but it’s made a huge difference having someone else to help out. Mia has been learning all aspects of the administration side, from finance and expenses to PA work. It means I’ve had time to take on new clients and set them up properly within a reasonable time frame.

“I’m also able to give added value to clients. I have a suite of employment policies which can now be personalised with company names and logos rather than using a generic template.”

enlightenHR offer a range of advice including redundancy and disciplinaries, company reorganisations, the buying and selling of a business, and setting businesses up with all the paperwork necessary to employ people.

Alison would like to work with other freelance HR professionals who want to work under the enlightenHR banner and build up the business further.

“Most of my day is spent giving advice to clients so if I was to take anyone on, they would need to have experience and a level of competence. Most of the work is phone based with many clients on the M4 corridor and in London so being based in Paignton is ideal for me, giving me flexibility.

“Since being based in Paignton, we have been steadily building up our local clients. Bishops Place is a lovely environment to work in with a lot of natural light and in the centre of town. It’s also perfect as Mia can take a bus into work. South West Business Centres, who manage the offices, look after us very well.”

South West Business Centres Manager, Adrian Sheen, said: “Apprentices can be a huge asset for any business and I’m pleased that this has proved to be the case for enlightenHR. In Torbay, businesses are encouraged to take on apprentices as it helps people develop their skills and become part of the workforce.”

“enlightenHR is obviously benefiting from an office at Bishops Place and taking on more local clients. Bishops Place is ideally located in the middle of Paignton with parking and other transport links nearby.”
