Torbay Council enter Pavilion agreement

Torbay Council is pleased to have reached an agreement to lease, subject to planning permission, with Nicholas James Group and Marina Developments Limited regarding the Pavilion, Marina Car Park and Cary Green.

Torbay’s Mayor, Gordon Oliver, said: “This agreement signals the council’s intent to see this historic and important building restored and maintained as part of Torbay’s continued regeneration. The development will create over 160 jobs and will encourage inward investment into the Bay.”

The regeneration of the site will enhance the area and enable the public to enjoy a fully restored Pavilion once again. The proposed development includes improvements to the inner harbour walkway while being a viable, financially sustainable and deliverable plan for the Pavilion.

Nicolas Roach, Chairman of the Nicolas James Group, welcomes the Council's decision and has confirmed: "We are now able to move forward with our proposals once again and will work closely with English Heritage to achieve planning permission, which will allow this exciting redevelopment to finally take place.

“We have remained enthusiastic about bringing the Pavilion back into meaningful use to secure its future. Our proposals will revitalise the Inner Harbour and greatly increase the amount of public waterfront, adding waterfront bars and restaurants, and introduce a 4* hotel within the centre of Torquay."

Further announcements will be made when the plans have been submitted.
