Enquiries and bookings up 50% for Blue Chip Holidays

With enquiries and bookings up around 50 per cent on last year, Blue Chip Holidays is looking forward to a busy season.

The company was formed in Brixham in 2000, when an opportunity arose to provide high quality self catering accommodation.

Portfolio development manager, Gary Jolliffe, said: “The market is very buoyant and that the five star holiday agency is always on the look out for good quality properties.”

Blue Chip Holidays is now based in Exeter, however Gary works out of Brixham Sea Works when in the Bay. He says that the 200 properties in Torbay he looks after are increasingly in demand all year round.

Gary explained: “The season has broadened from the traditional school holidays. We’re up on forward bookings and looking forward to a solid season, it bodes very well. I put this down to the improved standard of accommodation on offer, better quality restaurants and cafes across the area and initiatives such as the Brixham Express fast ferry.

“Festivals in the Bay also certainly help the tourist trade and the German market is very strong. People like the whole package Torbay offers. Torquay’s Abbey Sands is a triumph, it’s transformed that part of Torquay, and Mitch Tonks coming to Brixham in April will prove a big boost.”

Councillor Derek Mills, Executive Lead for Tourism, said: “I welcome the fact that Blue Chip Holidays is marketing the Bay across the UK and Europe and helping to put thousands of pounds into the local economy each year.

“The Bay is a wonderful holiday location and it’s pleasing to hear that council initiatives such as the Abbey Sands development and the fast Brixham Express ferry are proving so beneficial.

“People are committing to coming to the South West for their holidays. We have excellent beaches and trail walking on the South West Coast path, plus quality attractions and lots to be positive about.”

As well as strong bookings, the company is also receiving an increase in enquiries from people wanting to buy investment or holiday homes. Much of this is driven by changes due to come into force in April, which allows people to invest their pensions into properties.

Gary added: “We’re always looking for good quality properties and I’m very busy talking to people about investing in holiday lets. I’m getting more enquiries from people who have heard about Brixham, which is considered to be the best place across all sizes of property for investment.”

“I heard about the Brixham Sea Works from Brixham Chamber of Commerce. It’s a perfect base for me, with a great location which means I can nip out easily to meetings.

“I do work from home as well but much prefer the buzz and camaraderie of this well-designed shared office space. It helps to see familiar faces and talk about business and see what people are doing.”

Brixham Sea Works is operated by South West Business Centres whose manager, Adrian Sheen, said: “To achieve an increase of 50 per cent in bookings and enquiries takes a lot of work and commitment to the Bay and it’s good to hear that Brixham Sea Works is proving an ideal base for Gary’s work.”
