A Devon manufacturer and businessman have won prestigious regional awards in the EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards.

Hymid Multi-Shot, a Torquay-based manufacturer of plastic injection moulded components for the medical, instrumentation and electronics sectors, which employs 37 staff, won the Developing People Award. The award celebrates manufacturers that have done the most to build skills, harness talent and develop employees. The company was selected by a panel of judges drawn from business leaders, industry experts and academics and was up against stiff competition from a range of businesses, small and large, from across South Wales and South West England.

At the same time, Denis Parsons, the HR Manager and Training Manager of Centrax Industries Ltd, a Newton Abbot-based manufacturer of industrial turbines and machined components, also won the Manufacturing Champion Award, sponsored by Aldermore. This award recognises the achievements of individuals who, through vision, dedication, hard work and tireless involvement, have made a significant contribution to UK manufacturing.

Hymid Multi-Shot and Denis Parsons will now go on to find out if they have won national titles at an awards gala dinner in London in April.

Vickie Broadbent, Marketing Manager at Hymid Multi-Shot, says: “It’s a brilliant accolade for a small company such as Hymid. We’ve created a programme of upskilling, empowerment and fun in equal measure as part of our continuous investment in ‘People, Systems & Processes’. First and foremost, it’s the people - it’s your team - that make any business a success.”

Denis Parsons, HR and Training Manager of Centrax Industries Ltd, says: ““This award is testament to my team and other manufacturers in the area as much as me. It recognises the importance of people in the manufacturing sector and the difference they can make. It is important that the manufacturing skills and talent that abound in the South West, and in particular South Devon, are recognised and developed in order that the economy of the local area and region as a whole can grow and contribute to success of manufacturing in the UK.”

Richard Whitehouse, Regional Sales Director of Invoice Finance at Aldermore, says:  “Congratulations to Hymid Multi-Shot and Denis Parsons. Manufacturing plays an important role not only in the local but also the national economy. The fact that a manufacturer and a businessman from this region have been recognised for their achievements demonstrates the high calibre of local companies and is something to be proud of. We wish them the best of luck for the national finals.”

Entries for next year’s EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards are now open and local manufacturers are being encouraged to enter. For more information about the awards visit: http://www.eef.org.uk/campaigning/awards-and-competitions/future-manufacturing-awards.
